Thursday Thirteen

Do you ever feel obligated to post something? I occasionally have those days where my muse seems to have abandoned me for warmer climes but this is not quite like that. This is one of those weird, in-between days where I really want to post something and have some ideas but am frankly too tired/busy to develop them. I have never done the Thursday Thirteen thing before and I am not doing this as part of the group linking thing. I just decided this would be a nice way to post a number of unrelated things. So here I go, setting back blogging 100 years:

Thirteen Things You May or May Not Give a Damn About, May or May Not Be Interesting, Probably Won’t Be Related to Anything, and May Cause You to Want to Drive a Stake through This Blogger’s Heart

1. I was at Barnes and Noble the other night and saw a woman pushing a stroller. I waited to hold the door open for her to be a gentleman, of course, but also to catch a glimpse of her baby. Those who know me know I love babies. After she got through the door I noticed that her ‘baby’ was of the furry persuasion. It was a cat. In what must be a pet stroller since it had mesh all around it to keep the cat inside. I love cats as well but the whole thing struck me as extremely odd. It takes a person with alot of self confidence to take their cat in a stroller with them to the bookstore…or a crazy person. I choose not to judge.

2. Martha Stewart’s October issue of her magazine Living recently came out:

I am an unapologetic Martha Stewart fan and I look forward to this time of year because both this issue and the Halloween issue that comes out are filled with holiday related goodies that are just too wonderful to pass up. Last year’s Tart’s Halloween Party was inspired by Miss Stewart. I think Martha Stewart is an attractive lady now, but I was excited to find out the other day from Suzanne that she used to be really hot!

3. Mary and I watched the 3rd episode of Agatha Christie’s Marple staring Geraldine McEwan last night. I know I’ve already recommended it but I have to say that each episode has gotten better and better and the cast for each episode is terrific and the way they are shot is amazing. This episode had several very interesting camera angles, etc.

4. I got beat last week in Fantasy Football so my record is 1-1. I am playing the best team this week and am not too proud to say that I am prepared to get my butt handed to me. The joys of Fantasy Football.

5. I watched an old Vincent Price film called The Oblong Box and read the Robert Louis Stevenson short story The Body-Snatcher in the R.I.P. book, The Haunted Looking Glass yesterday. I found it an odd coincidence that both had to do with grave robbing. Maybe its a sign.

6. Autumn officially begins September 23rd. Are you as excited as I am?

7. Which means I will probably be getting out my fall and Halloween decorations in the next week or so. I am really looking forward to this.

8. Did you go visit the Hot Library Smut post that I linked to in yesterday’s post? If not, what are you waiting for? Here is another tantalizing picture to tempt you:

Oh to be rich!

9-13. Did you really want me to do a full thirteen?

I wanted to save the best for last. Today is my niece Haley’s 15th birthday! Haley is a wonderful, sweet girl who is also a reader. She is always fun to shop for on her birthday and holidays because there are always a bunch of books that Mary and I can pick from to get for her. Happy Birthday Haley, we all love you tremendously!!!

  1. Happy Birthday, Haley.. hope you have a great one!

as for the first day of fall this weekend.. for once, i am ready for it.. i’m loving this cooler weather & no humidity.

  2. Happy Birthday,Haley. Of course we all love you bunches!! You are a very special granddaughter and Grandpa and I are quite proud of you! I also love to buy books for Haley-We are getting her the Love Comes Softly series. They are read as quickly as we send them-she does love to read and so do I.

I have my fall decorations out just need to purchase pumpkins and gourds. Can’t wait to see what kind of fall decorations you come up with ,Carl. What a talented son we have!!

  3. Your pumpkins and gourds were spectacular! I’ve been working on Halloween stuff for a few weeks now (tiny Halloween quilts) and have some of the decorations out. All of your decorations for the Tart’s Halloween Party have provided further inspiration.

  4. Happy Birthday Haley!

Ok, first off the whole cat in a stroller thing is too much! Are the cats of the world not spoiled enough already. Now don’t get me wrong I love cats. My wife and I have a wonderful cat who always loves to be petted and will lay all over you in wonderful dropping positions. I would appreciate it Carl if you wouldn’t mention this around Molly I don’t want her to get any ideas.:)

The library picture above is awesome.

  5. As for the whole Martha Stewart being ” hot ” I think I just about died laughing. Your kidding right?

  6. When I have a blah day I just say I’m having a blah day…you actually put some effort into snapping out of it. Great. You’ve raised the bar again and from now on I can’t whine about it. I hope you’re happy now.

As to the cat stroller I can’t see my cats going for that action. I might get them in there once, but if I tried it a second time they would turn into balls of claws.

  7. hmmm…setting blogging back 100 years by doing a Thursday Thirteen? I think I’m insulted!

I read that Martha Stewart issue last night at Barnes & Noble and am dying to try the recipe for the Licorice Creme Brulee! If you get it will you send me a copy of it?

Then maybe I won’t be so insulted that you think my blog content is crap 😉

  8. It wasn’t your blog content, Janet, it was mine…I new all of it (except my dear niece haley) was going to be craptacular but I just had that urge to post anyway! 🙂 That’s also the reason that I didn’t link to the other ones. I didn’t want the embarrasment! When your lead story is a cat in a stroller its all downhill from there! Ha!

And I’m sorry Jeff, you guys are getting a cat stroller for Christmas for sure now!

  9. I barely got past the cat in the stroller – laughing out loud in my office right now!
And yes, I am ready and already enjoying fall. There’s something so relaxing
about autumn. I woke up today and all day I’ve just felt peaceful.

  10. Happy Birthday Haley! Wow – 15. You being 15 makes be feel really, really old. You are such a
wonderful & sweet neice. Mike and I love you very much and wish you a very, very happy birthday.

  11. I think you have to see the Karloff movie of The Body Snatcher, if you haven’t already. One of my absolute favorite chiller flicks!

I feel like you…too busy and overwhelmed. My muse definitely has gone into hibernation until my life settles into something vaguely akin to contemplative.

  12. Yaaaaa, the cat in the stroller is pretty bizarre. How’d you get that picture of my library? To die for. I’m definitely getting in the mood for Halloween with these spooky books I’ve been reading.

  13. I vote NO on the cat stroller.

And speaking of thirteen, I got the Thirteenth Tale today. After seeing how enthusiastic you and Suzanne were about it, I decided I didn’t want to miss out.

  14. Carl, your first thing “You May or May Not Give a Damn About, May or May Not Be Interesting, Probably Won’t Be Related to Anything, and May Cause You to Want to Drive a Stake through This Blogger’s Heart” is just the best ever, and I had to quote you too.

And yes, I really did want all 13 🙂

  15. The cat in the stroller had me laughing.

I love a guy who gets into Martha Stewart. My husband is a fan of Martha Stewart’s Living. I look at her recipes or craft ideas and they just intimidate me. Hopefully, it’s just because I’m a creative person who prefers to do my own thing, rather than a sign that I’m incompetent.

    Love the title.

  16. You know….I needed a good laugh, and that cat in a stroller story gave me just that. I love cats, but there is no way I would take mine for a walk in a stroller–especially shopping! LOL. Hope your niece had a nice birthday and got some lovely books as presents!

  17. I must judge! Stroller Cat=craaaazy!

I really can’t bring myself to comment on Martha Stewart :)…

Library Smut is strangely captivating, isn’t it?

Great job of fighting through the blahs–love your site.

  18. I love the idea of the RIP challenge !! I am glad I made up a couple of titles that were worthy of it !!

    Cats in strollers, eh?

    That had me chuckling !

    Happy Fall!!!!

    ( I am a very regular reader of your blog here, I just rarely comment… so here !! COMMENT !! 🙂 )
