Kansas Citians awoke to cool weather this morning thanks to overnight lows that dipped into the 40’s. This excited me as I was able to pull my leather jacket (a gift from Scott on one of my early NYC trips) out of the closet for the first time this fall season. I absolutely love this coat. It is still in great shape after all these years, is very heavy, and just feels great when I have it on. I was so excited to be able to wear it this morning. Overnight lows in the lower 40’s tonight means I get to wear it in the morning again! I’m such a goof…I love fall!!!

James and Jeff and I went to see Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride last night (my second time). Some others have posted after seeing it and I’m curious if any of the rest of you have seen it. If so I’d love to hear your thoughts. You can post them in the comments here or back on the Corpse Bride post.

Today’s fall weather joy was tinged with sadness when I learned of the death of Jerry Juhl this past Monday from complications with cancer. Jerry Juhl was the head writer for The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock and other Henson productions and was essentially the number two creative force behind the Muppets right behind Jim Henson. Juhl had a hand in creating many of the beloved Muppet characters, most especially The Great Gonzo. I’ve mentioned briefly in past posts that the Muppets were a big deal to me growing up and I have a real special bond to the quirky, bad-pun humor generated by the various Muppet characters. Jerry Juhl was responsible for a great deal of those memorable episodes. I still occasionally get sad when I think that Jim Henson is no longer with us as his creations were so wonderful and now I’ll add the death of Mr. Juhl to my sorrows. You can read a wonderful article about Jerry Juhl here. Of the many and varied bad, funny lines that Jerry Juhl wrote some of my favorites were spoken by Fozzie Bear. I am reprinting, without permission, these memorable Fozzie lines from the article I linked to above:
Why are crocodiles brown and flat?
Because if they were yellow and round, they’d be lemons.
What did the Momma Buffalo say to her child as he left for school?
Bison!
What did the German watch repairer say to his watch that would only go tick, tick, tick?
“Ve have vays of making you tock!”
What do you do with a wombat?
You play wom with it.
Why was the elephant standing on the marshmallow?
Because he didn’t want to fall in the hot chocolate.
Did you hear about the two antennas that got married?
The wedding was lousy, but the reception was great.
What’s red and smells like blue paint?
Red paint.
Goodbye Jerry, you will be missed.

In the spirit of corny humor you need to go to this site and watch the recut trailer for the old Jack Nicholson/Stephen King movie, The Shining. It will take a slight bit to download. Wait for it, its hilarious and well worth it!
Hello from Michele’s! So sad about his death, so many of the great entertainers from my childhood are passing…so sad!! Cute blog…very corny jokes…my kids will LOVE them.
My father-in-law would love those as well, I’ll have to share them with him. Thanks for the visit!
i am not ready for fall at all.. bring back the heat! š
tho i do love bonfires & harvest parties… and last year i went thru a fun corn maze..
Oh this makes me sad. I grew up with both the Muppets and Fraggle Rock. I absolutely adored Fraggle Rock. I always wanted to actually throw tomatoes at Fozzie Bear. And I loved Red from Fraggle Rock. I can hear the theme song now: “Dance your cares away……”
I only watched Fraggle Rock a few times but was a faithful Muppet fanatic…still am. I know the theme song to the show by heart. I loved Fozzie most because I also loved Statler and Waldorf and they always had the best lines when they were making fun of him. Truth be told though I really liked them all. Gonzo, Dr. Teeth, Kermit, Fozzie, Floyd, Lew Zealand, Dr. Bunson Honeydew and Beaker, Swedish Chef, Sam the Eagle…they were all great.
I’m sorry Angela, I do not feel your pain. I know several summer lovers and I just don’t get it. Why anyone would want to be hot is beyond me.
i’d rather be hot, simply because i hate being cold..
hell, to me, would be an ice box.
I love wearing long sleeve shirts and jeans…it is the most comfortable I ever feel, which also contributes to my preference for cooler weather. I don’t want to be freezing by any means, but I do prefer days like we had the other day where it barely breaks 65 and lows are in the 40’s! I love to open the window next to my bed so its chilly and then I can snuggle under warm blankets.
Just a reminder to check out that Shining trailer, its fun!
Fozzie’s gags were always the greatest!
I remember the Shining being a tad more frightening – was the trailer re-made by a real estate agent, by any chance?
Could be….that of course is the joke…its amazing how they can take certain shots of the movie, change the voice over and music and make it look like a completely different movie. I would’ve loved to see people’s reaction if that had been the actual trailer and then they went to see the movie expecting a sweet, touching family film.
I didn’t know that Jerry Juhl passed away this week! Damn! Gonzo was my favorite muppet! How sad!
I love the fall weather too. I just wish winter would end after Christmas.I dread the last half of winter.
I’m with you there Julie. I’d love November and December and even the first half of January to be filled with snow and then I’d like it to abruptly change to spring weather and stay that way…preferably until the fall starts. We could skip summer altogether in my opinion. I should move north.
